ACCOMMODATIONS & LAYOUT:
"The
Valiant 42" is an exceptionally spacious and comfortable boat. Known as a classic,
traditional, double ended offshore yacht, designed and built for circum-navigating in
comfort and safety, the Passport 42 is a proven "go anywhere", liveaboard
cruising yacht.
This beautiful passagemaker sleeps up to eight
people in accommodations with the forward V-Berth, main salon, aft quarter berth and aft
owners stateroom. Like all Passport 42s, the main salon settees make excellent
offshore sleeping quarters. The interior of the Passport 42 is dry and comfortable.
Headroom
throughout is extra spacious. "The Valiant 42" is styled with the heritage of
the finest features found in the most sought after yachting accommodations; bright,
exceptionally well ventilated with 2 dorades, 5 opening hatches and 15-screened opening,
stainless steel ports with curtains and shades. The interior is finished in the finest
furniture quality Teak, all bulkheads are solid teak staving, all cabinetry is solid teak
with teak louvered locker doors throughout. Teak ceilings against the hull, including
inside lockers, white Formica countertops and cabin sides, removable gloss white overhead
panels and a teak and holly cabin sole, of selected Burmese teak, throughout. The hull is
well insulated by virtue of construction and the Passport 42 is perhaps best known
for the tremendous capacity for storage aboard.
The
interior of "The Valiant 42" features a functional tri-cabin layout with large
forward and aft staterooms and a spacious central salon, plus a good sized head with
separate shower compartment.
Forward
of the V-berth, there is access to a large, divided chain/rode locker with additional
storage, through teak doors. The forward stateroom utilizes virtually the full beam of the
yacht for an exceptionally open and roomy layout. With various lockers, hanging locker,
extensive shelving, and numerous other detailed amenities, "The Valiant 42"
provides a gracious lifestyle for extended periods aboard, her interior is truly
stunning...she is in every way, a serious bluewater passagemaking yacht.
The main salon is open and inviting with large
settees (providing for comfortable berths at sea), a wide sole, numerous stowage areas and
first class appointments. It features a double drop leaf, solid teak dining table, which
invites a romantic dinner for two, or full sized dining for a banquet of 8. The port
settee is a large "L" shaped settee and to starboard, is a full length settee.
Upholstery is new, a rich and durable "premium" fabric. Above and outboard of
the settees you will find abundant storage under, outboard, over and behind settees with
book shelves, shelves and lockers, locker doors are all louvered, a feature much
appreciated by the serious liveaboard cruiser.
The navigation station is to starboard and faces
forward, considered by many knowledgeable sailors to be the proven, proper offshore
navigation station design. Again, storage is extensive in this area with large chart
table, drawers, lockers, ample storage under teak desk, plenty of room for navigation
books, charts and electronics. The nav station can easily double as the ships "home
office" and provides an excellent area for charting an afternoon sail, or plotting a
course across the seven seas. Just aft of the chart table is a large, full length
hanging/wet locker and aft of that, to starboard of the companionway, is a quarterberth
with a heavy duty, fold-down workbench & cabinet above. This is an excellent sea
berth, a tremendous storage area for gear or can be used as a complete workshop/tool
storage area...you decide which best suits your needs!
Across
from the nav station and directly aft of the main salon is the classic "wrap
around" offshore safe, designed galley that will delight the gourmet, whether at sea
or dockside. There is generous cabinet & counter space, deep double stainless steel
sinks, a Mariner 4 burner, gimbaled stainless steel propane stove w/oven and broiler, hot
& cold pressure water, fresh water pump, oversized ice box capacity, storage racks,
built in cutting board, large cupboards, dry bin storage and drawers. The galley tends to
be the focal point onboard "The Valiant 42", amongst fellow sailors, its
design and amenities, being much sought after. Just aft of the galley, is the master
stateroom, with large pullman style berth, which is over six and a half feet in length.
There are lots of drawers and locker storage in this comfortable cabin and a 2nd, courtesy
head under the ensuite seating cushion. Additionally, there are 2 opening ports and an
overhead hatch for excellent ventilation.

ABOVE DECK, DECK HARDWARE & SAFETY:
Above deck, the comfortable cockpit is self bailing with oversized
scuppers, designed for safety and comfort in heavy weather sailing. The classic
"T" shaped cockpit has high coaming for security and comfort in seating and is
deep and well protected. You will note that here too, there is exceptional storage.
Excellent visibility from all positions is consistent with the proven offshore features
and capabilities that the sailing world expects for a bluewater passagemaker. The
customizing of above deck area and extensive equipment is listed under "Deck and
Cockpit" The offset companionway is to starboard and is one of the safest and easiest
entries available in any sailboat also allowing for the oversized master stateroom to
port.
The
hull of "The Valiant 42" is hand laminated FRP with Airex foam core and was
designed and built to meet ABS specifications. The house and deck are also cored for
stiffness and insulation. The housetop and cockpit have molded in nonskid surfaces, while
the outer side decks are overlaid with 5/8" teak planking, bedded in Thiokol. All
deck hardware is installed by drilling and tapping into prepositioned and fiberglassed-in
heavy duty backing plates. Ballast is internal cast iron bedded in chopped glass and resin
and then fully encapsulated. Hull is configured as a heavy cruising fin and full skeg hung
rudder.

GENERAL INFORMATION: (ADDITIONAL
SALESMANS COMMENT OTHER FEATURES & REMARKS) A safe, strong, robust, bluewater
passagemaker, "The Valiant 42" provides a gracious lifestyle for extended
periods aboard. The Passport 42 design by Stan Huntingford is often considered to be one
of the very best all around, true cruising boats available, by virtue of her stout
construction, beautiful finish details, remarkable layout features, comfort and safety
features, sailing qualities and value. With the additional benefits of innumerable
upgrades, "The Valiant 42" is indeed an extraordinary boat to come to the
brokerage market.
"The Valiant 42" was
originally a fresh water boat cruising the Great Lakes in the summer and spent winters in
an inside covered storage. She has only been in Southern climes and at sea for the last 2
years. She is equipped for bluewater passagemaking, the owners planned an extended cruise
and due to family changes, her loving owners have decided to place this beautiful yacht on
the brokerage market for her next discriminating owner. She is a rare find, owned by
experienced sailors and set up to be short-handed, the proper offshore system for
"couple-cruising. All manuals, warranties and available original brochures are
maintained aboard and will be passed on to her new owner.
"The
Valiant 42" has been thoughtfully and expertly designed by one of the "best in
the industry", combining current technology for both comfort and speed. This results
in a deck layout that would do justice to a Grand Prix yacht, an interior with
accommodations that are consistent with extended, liveaboard, bluewater sailing, a
standard of quality and luxury that those familiar with Passport Yachts, will readily
acknowledge. All construction in Taiwan was under the direct supervision of Passport
Yachts International by Wendell Rankin. As with most high quality boatyards, the builder
continually refined and improved details of construction, finishing and interior layout
throughout production. "The Valiant 42" was amongst the last of the 50-60 hulls
built and definitely benefited from the experience of previously built hulls. Sail
magazine wrote of the Passport 42, "(Wendell) Rankin made sure the Airex-cored
cruiser was built right. The 42s canoe stern, somewhat bluff, dorylike bow, curving
sheer and long trunk cabin are cruising icons...she looks pretty and purposeful...her long
waterline suggests an impressive speed potential and her balanced rig lets her take
advantage of it".
