| GENERAL INFORMATION:
This
Valiant 40 is a perfect example of a classic Perry offshore design and is one of the
rare Valiant 40s to come on the market Her classic Valiant lines incorporate a
tumble home stern, bulwarks, dories, opening ports, oversize rigging and quality
construction. The Valiant 40 is a modern classic. Performance has become synonymous with
Valiant and is in no small way responsible for its success. SAIL Magazine selected
the Valiant 40 as the "Offshore Cruiser of the Decade".
ACCOMMODATIONS & LAYOUT:
This
Valiant 40 sleeps up to seven people in accommodations with the V-Berth, main salon and
quarter berth cabin. Like all Valiant Yachts, the main salon settees and the quarter berth
make excellent offshore sleeping quarters. The interior of the Valiant 40 is dry,
bright, comfortable and well ventilated with 9-screened opening ports, 4 large opening
hatches and a large companionway hatch and 3 dorades. She is styled with the heritage of
the finest features found in the most sought after yachting accommodations and finished in
furniture quality teak.
Custom built cabinetry above the sink and
custom teak spice rack under. Custom book shelves and double doored locker with drawer
under, starboard over settee. V-berth shelves, port and starboard with fiddle boards for
securing stored items. This it the classic layout of the much sought after traditional,
side entry Valiant, with the Captains quarters in the port double aft quarter berth, which
has taken more sailors on circumnavigation, than any other production yacht.
The
interior of her features the traditional tri-cabin layout with large forward and aft
staterooms and a spacious central salon. The main salon is open and inviting with large
settees (providing for comfortable berths at sea), a wide teak and holly sole and numerous
stowage areas.
The
overhead is drop-down formica panels with teak battens for ease of installation and
inspection of below deck fittings. She features private accommodations for two couples in
separate cabins, plus settee berths for additional guests.
Most forward and aft of the chain locker, you
will find the V-berth with filler cushion, storage shelves to port and starboard and
tremendous storage under the V-berth, accessible from top opening hatches. There is a
large opening hatch above the berth. Next aft to port is a large head with a Raritan
Electric Commode. Again, there is ample storage with several lockers and cupboards and
ventilation is excellent, with opening port in head, plus an overhead dorade ventilator.
Directly across and to starboard are two very
large, full length hanging lockers with bookshelves over. There is a screened opening port
above locker. All locker doors have louvered vents for air circulation.
Moving
aft is the main salon which is located amidships with large comfortable settees to port
and starboard, a large, custom drop down, bulkhead mounted, teak table, for dining to port
or which opens for a double, full salon dining table. Built into the top of the table.
This table arrangement is the most popular of all Valiant table designs, as it opens up
the main living quarters and provides tremendous space. There is a large opening hatch
overhead and large opening ports with screens. Storage is abundant on her with a large, 2
level custom cabinet located over the starboard settee, plus the abundant storage behind
the settees. The port settee over is a large open storage area, which could easily be
converted to additional lockers and bookshelves, or used as a pilot berth. Teak &
holly sole throughout.
Aft of the main salon and to starboard, is a
proper offshore, forward facing navigation station and chart table with tremendous room
for a full compliment of navigation and electronic equipment for easy use while
navigating. The large nav table has a large storage locker under the desk top and room for
the additional electronic navigation and communication equipment outboard.
Just aft of the nav station and directly across
from the galley are two huge lockers, one is a pantry which provides a tremendous amount
of space for provisions. The second locker is a large, full length wet locker. There is a
teak grate built into the teak and holly sole at the bottom of the companionway, to catch
water from wet gear. With the wet locker and teak draining grate, which drains to the
bilge, all foul weather gear is kept aft and away from the main living quarters. All
locker doors are ventilated.
Aft of the main salon and to port, is the classic
"wrap around" "U" shape configured, offshore safe galley, that will
delight the gourmet, whether at sea or dockside. There is generous cabinet & counter
space, galley drawers, a single doored locker under the sink, 1 large deep stainless steel
sink and 1 large shallow stainless steel sink, 3 burner, gimbaled stainless steel propane
stove with oven, & cold pressure water and galley foot pump. Over the galley is a
large opening hatch and an opening screened port for light and ventilation. Above the
sinks, you will find a large teak cabinet with shelves and a custom teak spice rack under.
There is a Grunert Versamatic
refrigerator/freezer. The refrigeration and freezer are in a large well insulated
spillover system, athwartship, top opening, 2-lid box.
Next aft to port is the Captains aft cabin. There
is a double berth with locker, dressing seat and huge storage under berth. The aft
stateroom also has excellent ventilation provided by an overhead hatch and 2 opening ports
with screens.
There are 9 opening ports with screens and 4
opening deck hatches, plus the companionway hatch, which provides a tremendous amount of
light and superior cross ventilation. There are also 2 dorade vents, one over the head and
one over the chart table. Below deck ventilation far surpasses the standards in the
industry. This yacht incorporates beautiful teak and holly sole and a rich teak interior.

ABOVE DECK, DECK HARDWARE & SAFETY:
The topsides features a large unobstructed
deck and cabin top. Safe & secure deck work is ensured with raised bulwarks, nonskid,
full length cabintop teak handrails, double bow and stern rails and double lifelines. The
large and comfortable cockpit is self bailing with oversized scuppers, designed for heavy
weather sailing.
Excellent
visibility from all positions is consistent with the proven offshore capability that the
sailing world expects from a Valiant. The mast is keel stepped, Hull color is a very light
cream and the whale stripe is black. On deck sail bags and mast and boom also are black
for a very distinctive and striking looking yacht. All halyards are led aft to the
cockpit...a true mark of an offshore rigged bluewater cruiser.
