GENERAL
INFORMATION:
“GRAYEAGLE”
is a perfect example of a classic Perry offshore. Her
classic Valiant lines incorporate a tumble home stern,
bulwarks, dorades, opening ports, oversize rigging and
quality construction.
The Valiant 40 is a modern classic. Performance has
become synonymous with Valiant and is in no small way
responsible for its success. SAIL
Magazine selected the Valiant 40 as the ”Offshore
Cruiser of the Decade”.
ACCOMMODATIONS
& LAYOUT:
“GRAYEAGLE”
sleeps up to six people in accommodations with the
V-Berth, main salon and quarter berth cabin. Like all
Valiant Yachts, the main salon settees and the quarter
berth make excellent offshore sleeping quarters. The
interior of the Valiant 40’ is dry, bright, comfortable
and well ventilated with 9 opening ports, 4 large,
screened, opening hatches and a large companionway hatch
and 3 dorades. “GRAYEAGLE” is styled with the heritage
of the finest features found in the most sought after
yachting accommodations and finished in furniture quality
teak.
Custom
built cabinetry and features throughout this beautiful
yacht, far exceed the standard layout of this much sought
after traditional, side entry Valiant, with the Captains
quarters in the port double aft quarter berth. She is a
modern version of the famous “traditional layout”
Valiant 40’ which has taken more sailors on
circum-navigations, than any other production yacht.
The
interior of “GRAYEAGLE” features the traditional
tri-cabin layout with large forward and aft staterooms and
a spacious central salon. The main salon is open and
inviting with large settees with lee cloths, providing for
comfortable berths at sea, a wide sole and numerous
stowage areas.
The
overhead is drop-down Formica panels with teak battens for
ease of installation and inspection of below deck
fittings.
She
features private accommodations for two couples in
separate cabins, plus settee berths for additional guests.
Most
forward and
aft of
the chain locker, you will find the V-berth with
filler cushion, storage shelves to port and starboard and
tremendous storage under the V-berth. There is a large
opening hatch above the berth. The forward cabin is closed
off by a classic hinged in the middle, folding teak door.
Next aft to port is a large head, with ensuite shower with
ample storage including, several lockers and cupboards.
Ventilation is excellent, with opening port in head, plus
an overhead dorade ventilator.
Directly
across and to starboard are two very large, full length
hanging lockers with bookshelves over. There is a screened
opening port to starboard. All locker doors have louvered
vents for air circulation.
Moving
aft is the main salon which is located amidships with
large comfortable settees to port and starboard, a custom
bulkhead mounted, drop down teak table, for dining to port
or which opens for a double, full salon dining table.
Under the table is a Taylors kerosene heater which warms
the entire vessel. There is a large opening hatch overhead
and large opening ports. Storage is abundant on
“GRAYEAGLE” with large storage areas behind settees.
Behind the port settee is a large open storage area, which
could easily be converted to additional lockers and
bookshelves. To starboard, you will note, bookshelves, a
locker and drawer. Teak & holly sole in main salon,
forward and aft cabins.
Aft
of the main salon and to starboard is a proper offshore,
forward facing navigation station and chart table with
tremendous room for the full compliment of navigation and
electronic equipment for easy use while navigating. The
large nav table has a large storage locker under
the desk top, a deep locker and outboard, room for
the additional electronic navigation and communication
equipment.
Just
aft of the nav station and directly across from the galley
are two huge lockers, one a pantry with shelf top which
provides a tremendous amount of space for provisions, the
other, a large, full length wet locker. There is a teak
grate built into the teak and holly sole, at the bottom of
the companionway, to catch water from wet gear. With the
wet locker and teak draining grate, which drains to the
bilge, all foul weather gear is kept aft and away from the
main living quarters. All locker doors are ventilated.
Aft
of the main salon and to port, is the classic “wrap
around” “U”
shape configured, offshore safe galley, that will delight
the gourmet, whether at sea or dockside. There is generous
cabinet & counter space, 3 galley drawers, 2 lockers
under the sink, 1 large deep stainless steel sink and 1
large shallow stainless steel sink, 3 burner, gimbaled
Force 10 stainless steel propane stove with oven and
broiler, hot & cold pressure water and galley foot
pump, with charcoal filter to remove “tank taste”.
Over the galley is a large opening screened hatch and an
opening port for light and ventilation. Above the sinks,
you will find a large custom teak cabinet with shelves and
teak racks for cups, cutlery and spices, and an
Adler/Barber refrigeration system in a large well
insulated athwartship box.
Next
aft to port is the Captains aft cabin. There is a double
berth with massive storage under, dressing seat, with
lockers above. The aft stateroom also has excellent
ventilation provided by a screened overhead hatch and 2
opening ports, plus a quiet Hella Turbo fan at the foot of
the berth.
There
are 9 opening ports with screens and 4 opening deck
hatches, plus the companionway hatch, which provides a
tremendous amount of light and superior cross ventilation.
There are also 3 dorade vents, one over the head,
one over the chart table and one over the “V” berth.
Below deck ventilation far surpasses the standards
in the industry. This
yacht incorporates beautiful teak and holly sole and a
rich teak interior.
